Introduction to Malaysia’s New TIN Search Service
The Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has introduced a significant advancement in tax administration through the new Tax Identification Number (TIN) search service. This implementation, announced in Budget 2025, falls under the scope of the Income Tax Act (ACP) 1967 and represents a major step forward in Malaysia’s taxation system.
MyTax TIN Search Platforms
The TIN search service is accessible through multiple platforms, with the primary access point being the MyTax Portal (mytax.hasil.gov.my) launching on January 1, 2025.
Currently the TIN Search Service only accessible by login with MyDigital ID. By scanning the QR code using the MyDigital ID app (MyDigital ID – Apps on Google Play) or (MyDigital ID on the App Store) to login.
Step-by-step Guide on how to find TIN Number
Search for Malaysia Taxpayer’s TIN number
Upfront after login, user will be notified on the serious consequences of misusing the TIN information.
Criminal proceeding will be instituted when there is misuse of Tax Identification Number (TIN) information, where it is subject to a fine not exceeding RM4,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or both (Section 66A, Income Tax Act 1967).
For 2 main categories of taxpayers, the search methods are:
Individuals Taxpayers:
- Identity card number
- Passport number
The system only allows TIN searches for Identification Numbers and Passport Numbers. For Military and Police Numbers, taxpayers need to update their Identification Number via Customer Feedback Form
Other Than Individuals Taxpayers:
- Company
- Limited Liability Partnership
- Co-operative Society
- Trust Body
- Partnership
- Association
- Hindu Joint Family
- Labuan Entity
- Public Entertainer
- Deceased Person’s Estate
- Unit Trust / Property Trust
- Real Estate Investment Trust / Property Trust Fund
- Business Trust
Most non-individual taxpayers like Sdn Bhd company are searchable by reference number that are usually the new Business Registration Number (BRN) like “201601017379” format.
We have tested with old ROC number like “1188312K” format also workable.
TIN Search using MyTax account instead of MyDigital ID App
For those not using MyDigital ID app. The TIN Search option also available after your login to your MyTax Account.
The rest of the steps will follow exactly as above TIN Search process using MyDigital ID.
Choose whichever is more convenient for your usage.
E-Invoice Implementation Support
To facilitate the nationwide implementation of e-invoicing, LHDN has integrated TIN search functionality across multiple platforms. The primary integration points include:
- MyInvois portal
- MyInvois Application Programming Interface (API)
- MyTax portal with MyDigital ID verification
MyInvois API Integration Options
The system provides comprehensive technical support for businesses and developers. As stated by LHDN, detailed information about the Search Taxpayer’s TIN function via API can be accessed through the MyInvois Software Development Kit (SDK).
Malaysia Digital Identity Integration
Supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation initiatives, LHDN has integrated MyDigital ID into the TIN search system. Users can access the search function on the MyTax portal using MyDigital ID identity verification, ensuring secure and authenticated access to tax identification services.
Service Availability and Support
The service is fully operational from 1st January 2025, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia’s taxation modernization efforts.
